Late September Events In Bude

Hello again everyone from us here at Wyvern Guest House and B & B. We are currently enjoying some settled and sunny weather here in Bude and there are a number of events to keep any late tourists occupied. Clean Cornwall week will soon be in full swing (see last news item) and there are several music events for you if you choose to visit. The Bude Concert Orchestra is performing its' annual Autmun concert at the Parkhouse Centre featuring music from Bizet, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, Cimarosa and Handel. The concert is on the 27th of September at 7.30pm. Programmes £6 on the door - Children £2. Details 01288 355692. The same day there is also a performance by Launceston Town Band in Budes' own Castle Grounds between 2 and 4pm. The summer season is finally drawing to a close and after the wet and windy weather and lots of brave visitors to Both Wyvern Guest House and Bude, it is time to think about cleaning up the inevitable mess. For anyone local, or just visiting, litter can have a massive impact on our beautiful North Cornish seaside resort of Bude. Bude Jazz Festival 2008 Update

Here it is folks, the 21st Bude Jazz Festival starts this Friday and the weather is looking like it may improve for the weekend. So dont delay call Wyvern Guest House and book for a short break, or the whole week, now to avoid dissapointment. 3rd Welcombe Open Studios

Now in it’s third year, Welcombe Open Studios gives you an opportunity to visit the studios of artists, designers & makers in this beautiful and secluded village on the North Devon coast. Just a short trip from Bude and Wyvern Guest House, the 3 day event starts this Friday (8th) and continues until Sunday (10th). Local artists will be opening their doors to visitors, giving you the opportunity to meet the artists, see where & how their work is created and buy or commission work from them. Disciplines include photography, textiles, furniture & accessories, painting, sculpture, pottery & cards. Kings Cottage Nursery will also be open for plant sales and The Old Smithy Inn, serving award winning food, will be open for lunch & dinner. 21st Bude Jazz Festival

Well, it is that time of year again. After a shakey start the weather seems to be behaving itself and looks set to continue into august in anticipation of one of the most notable jazz music events in the country! The 21st Bude Jazz Festival promises to deliver some of the finest jazz musicians (and fans) from all over the world, and set in the unspoilt seaside setting of Bude is not to be missed. The festival starts a month today, the 23rd August, and continues for a full week to the 30th. Anyone who is planning a vist will know that the B&B's fill up quickly and pre-booking your stay is recommended. Wyvern Guest House will have up to date information during the festival on the artists, times and locations of performances as well as providing nearby access to the famous "Jazz Bus", which provides transport all week to and from the many venues. Clovelly Maritime Festival

Saturday the 19th and Sunday the 20th of July will play host to the third annual Colvelly Maritime Festival, once again held in support of the North Devon Hospice, with something for all ages to enjoy: juggling, Punch and Judy, puppet theatre, shanty singers, treasure hunt, a hog roast on the beach and much more. Another good reason (if one was ever needed) to head down to our particular corner of North Cornwall and soak up the maritime heritage of both Bude and nearby Clovelly. As always why not book a late break at Wyvern Guest House and enjoy the best of both worlds. Keeping with the nuatical theme, the Bude Castle is also open to the public this year with the new Bude Maritime Museum. Bude Proms In The Park 2008

Held in the delightful grounds of Sir Goldworthy Gurney's Castle, this annual music event is set to be an evening to remember. With music by the highly revered and talented Launceston Town Band and many more, this would be a great event to plan a trip or short break around. The event always attracts many tourists from the local bed and breakfasts, guest houses and hotels and Wyvern House is no exception. Why not come and enjoy both our hospitality and some great music on a warm summers evening. Bude Proms In The Park will be held on Saturday the 5th of July, starting at 7:30pm.

Bude Gets New Bar & Coffee Shop

On the 14th of June Bude will be gaining an exciting new coffee shop and bar to complement the already excellent options for an evening out on the town. The aptly named "Sands" bar will be opening this Saturday as part of the ongoing redevelopment of the Strand Hotel. This venue promises to add another dimension for people on their holidays in our coastal town, and will offer the perfect place to unwind after a day on the beach. Only a short walk from Wyvern Guest House this is another reason to book for the summer and come and enjoy our beautiful North Cornish town from our welcoming bed and breakfast.

2008 Royal Cornwall Show

The spectacular event which is the Royal Cornwall Show will be happening on the 5th,6th and 7th of June. The event is held near Wadebridge and Bude makes the perfect base for anyone thinking of travelling to attend. Guest houses, Hotels and bed & breakfasts in the Wadebridge area will be very busy, so why not book into our B and B a short way down the coast and partake in the cornish festivities! With free parking and these main attractions for 2008, you really would be missing out: RAF Police Dog Team, Hot Air Balloons, Top Class Showjumping and 'Heavies on Hay'- a display of heavy horses from 'Cornish Horse Power'. Also including displays, entertainment and over 900 trade stands.

Work Begins To Repair Canal Lock Gates

Work is now under way to repair the storm-damaged lock gates of Cornwall's Bude Canal. The gates were damaged during the unusualy heavy storms in March and has been empty ever since. The work should be completed in time for the main holiday season, so dont worry if your thinking about booking into our bed and breakfast over summer, the canal should be ready to enjoy again!
